Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for complying with food safety and food security and communicating and enforcing Quality, Kosher, GMP's, HAACP, Preventive Controls Program, Allergen, and Sensitizer as well as other regulations as required.
  • Is the designated Safe Quality Foods (SQF) practitioner with the responsibility and authority to lead the development, implementation and review of the SQF Code. Will take appropriate action to ensure the integrity of the SQF Code is maintained
  • Maintain a qualified group of trained technicians to staff the Quality Control Lab at Fontana in Production. Assign and develop Technicians with necessary skills to assist supervisors and execute special technical assignments, maintain records and coordinate Q.C. activity.
  • Manage Q.C. laboratory and Q.C. workstations throughout the plant. Maintain adequate written work instructions, a written schedule of sampling, testing, and inspection frequencies to guide Technicians in tasks. Consult with working Technicians regularly during work activity to monitor operations. This includes oversight of fruit and ingredient receipt, raw material and ingredient storage, filtration, blending, processing bulk and retail packaging operations.
  • Technical Services Manager will assume primary responsibility for determining ingredient and/or product adherence to specification and conformance to customer requirements. Supervisors will be responsible for disposition of held material. Will guide sampling and testing of held product and communicate to appropriate parties concerning product availability.
  • Monitor all Quality Control, Production, and other appropriate records to determine if appropriate specifications, procedures and technical precepts are adhered to. Examine the same to discern important trends and recommend technical solutions to operational problems to reduce costs and improve product quality. Work closely with Regional Quality Manager. Institute management information reports on quality performance as necessary.
  • Maintain a program of routine equipment calibration to assure testing accuracy in lab and provide documentation of the same. Troubleshoot instrument problems as necessary. Recommend new equipment and testing device purchases as needed, develop and manage Q.C. related portions of Technology's capital and expense budgets.
  • Will work with Production to scale-up new products, packages and processes and develop appropriate Q.C. schemes for commercial production.
  • Monitor, conduct and report on the state of G.M.P. and Sanitation compliance throughout operations.
  • Responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and training of HAACP, Preventive Controls Program and Food Quality Plan.
  • Will analyze package and ingredient supplier technical performance, objectively report on the same and work with supplier's technical personnel to effect improvement.
  • Will provide technical assistance and support to other functions and assist in technical problem solving and analysis, to eliminate the root cause of failure.
  • Will assess the professional literature and stay abreast of advances in the field of quality as they may apply to the business interests of Refresco.
  • Will be responsible for developing and maintaining the quality department budget.
  • Responsible for direct supervision of Q.C.
  • Contact for Plant Manager for Regulatory, Kosher, Organic, and Environmental responsibilities.
  • Technical Services Manager will work with Environmental Consultant as needed.
  • Assist Human Resources Manager as the coordinator of the Food Defense Program.
  • Quality Assurance Supervisor can sign and act as SQF Practitioner in the absence of the Technical Services Manager.
  • In the absence of the Technical Services Manager backup will be accomplished through the Quality Assurance Supervisor and Plant Manager.
  • Beverage or Liquid fill experience with a preference in hot fill facility.
  • Education and/or Experience:

    Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; and/or five to seven years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in the quality control field.

    Language Skills:

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journal, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

    Mathematical Skills:

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

    Supervisory Skills:

    Must be able to communicate effectively with associates under manager's direct and indirect supervision, as well as communicating with top management, and possible the board of directors.

    Manage performance of subordinates in a timely manner on forms provided by the HR department for that purpose.

    Responsible to administer the company's policies in a fair, consistent, and timely fashion, including but not limited to the Attendance Policy.

    Conduct follow up discussions for development and maintain written records in the associate's personnel folder.
